Saturday saw Shelford visit Cambridge Commodities Park with both sides on 16 points in the wrong half of the table, Ely welcomed back Luke Turner, his first game since September, and Paul Dewey, his first game since the middle of October, but they have now lost Jake Alsop for a few weeks.
The opening try of the game, came from a Shelford line out, which saw Shelford cut through the home side to score a converted try to lead, they doubled their lead soon after, as Shelford cleared their lines, with a hopefully kick forward, deep in the Tigers half, the Tigers defence failed to pick up the loose ball, and in stole Shelford to run the ball under the posts, adding the conversion to double the lead, the home side finally got on the scoreboard with the award of a penalty, opting to kick, Ash Clark slotted the ball over the for the three points.
Shelford were soon on the scoreboard once again, and Tigers again missed tackles in the build-up and again in proved costly as Shelford added a converted conversion, as the end of the half closed in Tigers were on the scoreboard as Tigers picked up a loose ball, as Lee Thompson powered over to score, with the conversion added as the half time score saw Tigers 21-10 down.
Start of the second saw the referee blow for a penalty for Shelford, with visitors opting for the points, but the ball went wide of the posts, Ely score a try out on the left, as Paul Dewey going over the line in the corner, after some powerful work from Thompson once more in the build-up, the conversion was missed, with the Tigers on top, they went down to 14, for foul play, as John Surbey, was shown a yellow card, despite being down a man, Ely score as Rhys Williams Goldman picks off a pass, and feeds captain Jim Storey the ball to score, with Clarke adding the conversion Tigers went into a point lead, from the restart Shelford were awarded another penalty, this one within kicking distance, so opting to kick, but the ball went wide of the posts, moments later another penalty to Shelford, this time they make no mistake to lead by two points, from the restart Ely push Shelford back, winning a scrum put in. but Shelford managed to hold out, and put the ball out for the final whistle to take the win.
