TIGERS STRENGTHEN COUNTY RELATIONSHIP

TIGERS STRENGTHEN COUNTY RELATIONSHIP

Last night Ely had the pleasure of hosting the Cambridgeshire Women’s XV, as they took on Suffolk in a winner takes all EC Cup Final. Unfortunately, the ‘home’ team ended up on the wrong side of a 29-7 score line, but they put up a hell of a fight and didn’t make it easy for the ladies of Suffolk.

Club Chairman Andy Gunbie had this to say. “Our commiserations to the Cambridgeshire ladies, and congratulations to Suffolk. Despite the result, I’d like to think the night was a success for the Tigers.
We were once again able to demonstrate why we are considered a trusted host for County, and even Eastern Counties representative rugby. We have been lucky enough to be the men’s host for many years, so to add the Women’s competition to the list is a great honour, and one we value highly.
Our women’s rugby training is only in its infancy, but we would love to see an Ely name in the side in future years.
If there are ladies out there who are looking to get into rugby, or maybe have played before and want to get back to it you’d be welcome to come along to training every Wednesday evening. Keep an eye on our social media for further details of sessions.
I should also give a special mention to our girls section. They provided a spectacular guard of honour, and proved to be the fastest ball girls in East Anglia!
Well done to all involved for helping to showcase Ely”.

Cambridgeshire Chair Jon Evans added.
“On behalf of the County I’d like to say thank you to all at Ely who helped to get the game played this evening! Thank you also to the girls side, they were a credit to their club”.

Well done all.
