A great day for the club.

On Wednesday 27th September we welcomed 5 local schools to Cambridge Commodities Park for our first annual schools tag tournament. The event was a great advert for the club and it was great to see so many kids playing rugby, some for the first time, and there were plenty of tries and smiles on show. We would love to hope many of those who attended decide to carry on their rugby journey, hopefully with Ely.

The event was organised with the help of our affiliate club Northampton Saints, and we thank them for their continued support of Ely Tigers. We were lucky enough to welcome along former Saints academy graduate, and current senior player George Hendy. The full back took the time to meet all the players, and even helped organise some skills sessions in between games.

Also a driving force in the organisation of the tournament was Saints ambassador Chris Holmes, and he had this to say.... "The day went better than I could ever have imagined, made extra special by the help of the youth sport leaders from Ely College and the visit of George Hendy from Saints. Ely Tigers is positioned at the heart of our community and was a great opportunity to show off our sport and what we are about. Hopefully through this day we have some new players and fans. Roll on to next year when we go again".

Thank you to Chris for his part in ensuring the day went ahead. Special mention should also go to Steve Janes, James Balderson, Liz Sanderson, and the youth sports leaders from Ely College, many of whom are part of the youth set up at the Tigers. They all played their part in showcasing our amazing club!

We are hoping this will lead to even more schools taking part next year, as we make it a permanent fixture on the club calendar.

Well done all!
